MakeSpace High Peak

Our mission is to spread joy through creativity, care & connection.

A message from Amy

MakeSpace Founder

I have always been a dreamer, a creator, a rebel and rule breaker.

From a young age, I was drawn to the arts - performing, singing, colouring in, scrapbooking. My entrepreneurial spirit was also strong - my Fisher Price till being my favourite toy and creating catalogues to sell my imaginary wears. I also have countless memories of admiring red deer, exploring rock pools at the beach and enjoying time in nature.

Nature & creativity have always been a part of me, even if I forgot that for a while. They found their way back to me in the last 10 years when I became a photographer and relocated from the bustling city centre of Manchester to the hills of High Peak. They have bolstered me through a 20 year corporate career spanning diversity, equity and inclusion, marketing and sales, offered light relief when navigating personal and professional challenges and provided much needed joy at times when there wasn’t much hope in sight.

Now I want others to benefit from the same opportunities - to remember to play, to have fun, try new things, to invest in ourselves and to connect with others and the world around us. That is why MakeSpace exists. To encourage us to get outside, to embrace our creativity - not in pursuit of perfection but to embrace the process - to care for ourselves and each other deeply and to show up as we want to in the world. MakeSpace is both an invitation to integrate these into our own lives and a physical place providing opportunities to do just that through intimate gatherings, events and experiences.

I want us to reimagine a future where creativity, care and connection are integrated into our everyday lives. Where success is measured not on income, status, achievements or possessions but on the fullness of our hearts, the joy we experience and the collective impact we can have.

Our Values

MakeSpace is mission-led and values-driven. We welcome, embrace and encourage:

Collaboration - working together to accelerate our collective impact.

Affirmation - providing support and encouragement to lift each other up.

Respect - welcome and celebrate people of all identities and backgrounds.

Evolution - harnessing our curiosity to continually change, grow and improve.

MakeSpace is a proudly women-led and neuro-inclusive. Our creative studio and event space in New Mills welcomes trans and non-binary people. We remain committed to becoming anti-racist, tackling ableism and dismantling systems of oppression that harm us all.

We aim to provide opportunities to uplift the community, support wellness and spread joy through creativity, both in our local community, and further afield through remote participation.
