April Day Break: a day of creativity & wellness

Join us for a curated experience day with time in nature, gentle movement, creativity, rest and relaxation. Play, rest and rebalance.

DayBreaks are full-day, curated experiences that invite you to pause, to take time to rebalance, try something new, experiment, play and to prioritise YOU.

This experience day has three parts:

A guided walk - experience the joy of nature with a 2 mile guided walk, taking in the picturesque scenery of New Mills. This is an easy walk which passes through the stunning Torrs Riverside Park and Peak Forest Canal. There is some uneven/muddy terrain, a short steep section and some steps so please do consider this if you have restricted mobility or specific accessibility needs.

An intuitive drawing workshop - we will return to MakeSpace for an intuitive drawing workshop, facilitated by @amy_makes_mandalas.  In this session, you will embrace your intuition and explore colour, pattern and ‘zentangle’ techniques to create your own piece of abstract art which you will take home. No previous artistic experience necessary!

A relaxing sound bath - we will close our day together with @holistichealing_mcr who will guide us through a gentle, soothing sound bath. All you need to do is rest, relax and unwind to the sound of enchanting instruments as you’re invited into a meditative state.

Photography Walk: with your smart phone

Capture the world through your lens—no fancy gear required! Whether you’re a total beginner or a social media pro, this session is perfect for anyone looking to level up their landscape and nature photography game using the camera that most of us have with us every day - your smart phone!

Experienced photographer and MakeSpace founder, Amy, invites you to join us for this hands-on photography walk, designed specifically for smartphone users.

  • Learn Skills: This session is less about technical settings and more about working with what we have - the art of noticing, composition and lighting. We begin our time together exploring these factors, simply and without technical jargon.

  • Practice Outdoors: We will head outside to experiment with what we have just learned. Our walking route is a gentle 2 mile circular, taking in the Torrs Riverside Park, the Millennium Walkway and the Peak Forest Canal. We will have plenty of time to take it slowly and apply the techniques we have been learning together.

  • Take it Home: At the end of the walk, we’ll help you select your best shot which you can print here at MakeSpace for you to frame or gift.

All you need is a fully charged smartphone and your creative eye. Let’s turn those digital snapshots into physical keepsakes!

Getting here - MakeSpace is a 5 minute walk from New Mills Newtown train station and 10 minutes from New Mills Central. There no parking available at the venue and limited parking available on the road. There is paid parking nearby at New Mills Newtown train station, costing £2.20 per day (paid via the RingGo app).
